We apologise for the inconvenience.

Founded in 1965 by Chef Ruggero Bovo, and led by his son, Massimiliano Bovo, Trattoria al Gatto Nero has consistently offered local cuisine of the highest quality, in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. For this family -owned and -run trattoria, the ever-present queue outside the door and the content faces of an international, satisfied clientele are the ultimate satisfaction.

Today, Massimiliano awaits your arrival on charming Fondamenta della Giudecca.

Chef Ruggero Bovo, with his sous-chefs Gianluca Laudato (left) and Simone Rossi (right) offers a traditional Venetian Lagoon cuisine, with hand-selected fish and vegetables daily. His food is known the world over for its simplicity, locally-sourced, quality ingredients, and playful presentation.

An archipelago of four separate islets, Burano was settled by the people of Altino in the 5th century, who were fleeing the Lombardian invasion. Low tides and thick fog draped over kilometres of underwater canals created a natural defence that would protect the population for centuries. This part of the northern lagoon, coined Venezia Nativa, was home to one of the largest wetland populations of the Adriatic Coast. Today, the islands of Burano, Mazzorbo and Torcello combined have a population of less than 3,000. Fishing and lacemaking are the traditional vocations of Burano.
